I absolutely love giant monsters and mythical creatures. Whether it's the fantastical manticore or the gigantic kaiju, there's just something about them that makes me giddy. Seriously, nothing gets me more charged up than really good monster fight. You should've seen my reaction to "Rampage"!
But the geek in me will always wonder, which creature would actually win? Manticore vs. Griffin? Kaiju vs. King Kong? Fairy vs. Nymph? Puck vs. Kitsune? It gets you thinking about the ins and outs of what these creatures are fully capable of.
So now I pose the question to you: What creatures would you like to read about going head-to-head and how do you think it would turn out? Bonus points for introducing me to new creatures!
Whoever's answer I would most like to read in a book will win a $5 Amazon gift card. Please make sure you leave some way for me to get a hold of you!
Oh wow I really want to read about the size-shifting dragon from Fantastic Beasts VS Kosu from Last Namsara!! Epic dragon fight!
ReplyDeleteI'd love to read about the non-obvious choices going head-to-head. I've read about lots of dragons and giants and trolls but less about the smaller, more seemingly harmless creatures. Also, as I'm from Wales so I'd choose something from where I originate from. I'd love to see Welsh Coblynau (a type of pixie) and Llamhigyn Yr Dwr (a carnivorous water creature go head-to-head.
ReplyDeleteRemember Grover from Sesame Street in The Monster at the End of This Book? And the creature from The Shape of Water novel and movie? Put them together in a monster cuddle-off. One is adorable, one is weirdly sexy. Who wins? Well, Grover is also Super Grover, so he might have an edge there!? @MaynardLara on Twitter
ReplyDeleteHmmm... I just read A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness and I'm thinking there needs to be an epic sentient tree battle.
ReplyDeleteThe Yew Tree (A Monster Calls) vs. the Ents (LOTR) vs. Groot (Guardians of the Galaxy)
I love Groot so I'm hopeful he'll win!

Basilisk vs kraken! Epic literary showdown! :D
ReplyDeleteHappy readathon!
Pixies/Sprites vs Leprechauns. Would there be more actually physical fighting. Magical? Or word hurling? HAHA! I think hilarity would ensue.
ReplyDeleteI'd love to see the Rodents of Unusual Size (from The Princess Bride) face off with the genetically engineered mutts from the end of The Hunger Games. I feel like those two would be well matched, but I think the mutts would win in the end. They have some human features and I think that would give them a bit of clever planning the ROUS would not have.

This makes me think of the game ‘Bears vs. Babies’, which is really monsters (and some bears) versus babies. Hahaha
ReplyDeleteI’m gonna have to go with with Smaug versus Nagini
LIZARD BATTLE
I´m always between spiritual monsters (ghouls...) that appear from nowhere and suck your soul, and violent monsters whose only objective is, well, being violent and having lack of logic (gnomes, Grindylows...).
ReplyDeleteI'd like a Medusa revenge story where she gets a second chance at life and getting revenge on Poseidon and Athena.
ReplyDeleteI kind of want to see what would happen in a battle between a Blast-Ended Screwt and a Discworld Swamp Dragon... there's no way of guessing which creature will explode first. I think there is a lot of comedy potential having various wizards and City Guard members trying to prevent things from going up in flames. :D
ReplyDeleteKing Kong vs Bigfoot....lol. I am just curious which be ape type species would win. ;)
ReplyDeleteI would love love love to see an Irish sluagh go up against a traditional poltergeist!
ReplyDeleteAlien vs Shrike from Hyperion Cantos by Dan Simmons. I also wonder, what would the offspring be like, if it ever came to that.
ReplyDeleteMax says: A house elf (Dobby) from Harry Potter vs. an Oompa Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. Max thinks the house elf would win because it could do magic and the Oompa Loompa has no defensive skills
ReplyDeleteI'm a huge fan of the Saga series so I'd want Alana, the winged badass female lead from Landfall going up against Miss Peregrine from Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar children. While Miss Peregrine has the literal transformation into a bird and Alana has those small wings, Alana is so cut-throat that she'd absolutely win a physical altercation, while both have that motherly instinct if it was simply emotional.
ReplyDeleteI'd like to see Krampus Fight Jason from Friday The 13th and Freddy Kruger from Nightmare on Elm Street because he's tired that Halloween celebrations start earlier each year and because kids aren't afraid of him because the love these two horror movie stars :) @yogikai
ReplyDeleteHow about Smaug vs. Toothless 😂
ReplyDeleteToothless would have to win because they can't kill off a beloved children's character!
A zombie versus a unicorn. :)
ReplyDeleteI hope this counts, but I'd kinda be intrigued by the Sludge Villain (from My Hero Academia) vs. Pernida (from Bleach). You have a villain made of a sludge substance who suffacates people and posseses their bodies vs. a Giant Talking God hand that is constantly evolving, can self-replicate and regenerate, and who can extend their nerves into opponent's and control their bodies.
ReplyDeletePersonally I think Pernida would probably win since they're pretty op and adaptive, but honestly...I think the Sludge Villain would be hard to kill or incapacitate, too.
(I forgot to add, but my e-mail is nicoleawoods96@gmail.com)
DeleteCthulhu vs. Shadow from American Gods. Can he take on an ancient god?
ReplyDeleteDracula vs. Lestat
ReplyDeleteI while I would hate it because I love them both I would like to see Hippogriff from Harry Potter, and one of the Eagles from Lord of the Rings. It would be a close call I think.
ReplyDeleteMy blog with updates https://jazminjade.wordpress.com/
Not sure if it coins but... well, I would love to see who would win between movie!toothless and books!toothless! They're so different they're two different characters so I think it'd be pretty interesting!
