Dewey's Readathon Opening Meme

FYI (1)

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

Same place as always, lovely Michigan. Seriously, Michigan in the fall is so beautiful. ^_^

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

The Devil's Panties. I'm reading web comics this time around and my husband's already shared several of these comic strips with me.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

Belvita snack bars mixed into yogurt.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I've worn the same shirt for the past 3-4 Read-A-Thons.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

Today, instead of reading books, I'm reading web comics. All day at the computer screen. I'll have to remember to take breaks.

Read-A-Thon | Opening Meme | Hour Zero

Yay! It's almost time for the Read-A-Thon to begin! Some adjustments to the schedule are already having to be made (poor hubby isn't feeling well). But As soon as the clock strikes 8, I'm opening my first book of the day, Interview With A Vampire. Yeah, I've never read it before! I've also copied and pasted the questions that the Read-A-Thon is asking from their website.

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

Ypsilanti, Michigan!

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
The Color of Magic by Terry Pratchett. I've been told by several people I need to get into the DiscWorld series.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
It was a Taco Bell breakfast but since hubby isn't going to be able to go out and I want to start the Read-A-Thon on time, I'll switch my answer to the chocolate ice cream I have in the freezer, just for me.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
I am perfectly nor...norm.. A heck, I can't say it with a straight face. I am blessed to be weird.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
What's different this Read-A-Thon is that I've really toned down my number of books to read and have given myself a deadline to switch to comic books and web comics. I know at around 5-6 AM it gets almost impossible to read regular books, so the comics really help out.

Dewey 24-Hour Read-A-Thon | Introductory Meme

24hrreading2-thumb

1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?

Ypsilanti, MI! Just recently moved here from Ann Arbor. Not much of a move, but enough to get me into a different town.

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?

Last Christmas my husband gave me a copy of The Complete Book of Swords. While I have no intention of reading all three of the books, I do plan to finish the one that I started.

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?

I have to check their Sunday times, but I have a Dunkin Donuts down the road from me. I'm definitely looking forward to visiting them during one of my exercises to stretch my legs.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!

I haven't even made breakfast yet and I'm hyper!

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?

I have a much bigger apartment this Read-A-Thon so I am most looking forward to not having to be nearly as quiet as I have had to be in the past. This also means I have more room to walk around when I need to!

Bout of Books 2015

Bout of Books

Okay, enough debating with myself. I NEED a read-a-thon. I've been needing to just dive into books and leave out all other distractions and Bout of Books seems as good a time to do so as any.

My Goals:

1) Bring up my NetGalley Percentage by finishing off all four books I have still to read.

    a) These books are:
        i) The Flux by Ferrett Steinmetz
ii) Adventures in Human Being by Gavin Francis
iii) Manga Classics: Emma by  Po Tse, Crystle S Chan, Stacy King
iv) The Little Red Fish by James Moffitt and Bizhan Khodabandeh

    b) The last two books are relatively quick reads, hence their inclusion on the goal list.

2) Socialize.

    a) I won't be able to do all the blog posts, nor will I be able to attend tonight's Twitter Party (work hours being what they are) but I will try to do as many as I can. I will also try to visit other blogs and I will DEFINITELY be attending the Saturday morning Twitter Party.

Armchair BEA: Introductions & Library Love

Tell us a bit about yourself: How long have you been blogging? Where are you from? How did you get into blogging?

I haven't been blogging for very long. Just a year or so (even less time on this particular blog). But it is something that I enjoy very much.

I was born and raised in Michigan. The only time I haven't lived here was when I went to college in Iowa for 4 years.

My first book blog was originally meant to be a collaboration between me and some friends for a reading competition we were doing. Didn't work out, but I've been continuing to blog book reviews since.

What book are you reading right now?

Top of my list is Unnatural Creatures, compiled by Neil Gaiman. I've got so many books that I still need to finish. Been in a reading slump of late. :(

What is the top book in your TBR pile?

Just one? Hmm...I've actually got a few books in the pipeline. A couple from French Press Bookworks and another that I'll be getting from the library. I try to read at least one non-fiction book per month and I haven't been able to finish any of the ones that I've started so I'll probably focus on one of those.

What is your theme song?

It changes from year to year, season to season, but for the moment, I'm gonna go with: Rhinoceratops vs Super Puma by Ninja Sex Party.

What is your favorite genre and why?

I used to always answer this question with "Sci-Fi/Fantasy" as though they were easily interchangeable. These days, however, I have to answer with Science Fiction. I love Sci-Fi so much more than fantasy, especially the stuff that is heavy on the science. I also like it more because, I'm noticing, the more we learn about science, the more "Fantasy" becomes "Science Fiction".

Dewey's Read-A-Thon: Opening Meme

Today I am participating in the 24 Hour Read-A-Thon and, to get things started, the managers of the event have given us a small questionnaire for our first post!
Opening Meme:
1) What fine part of the world are you reading from today?
I am reading from Ann Arbor Michigan! On a game day!

2) Which book in your stack are you most looking forward to?
I am most looking forward to NPCs by Drew Hayes. I love the idea of a story about the side characters!

3) Which snack are you most looking forward to?
Just keep the coffee coming and I'll be good.

4) Tell us a little something about yourself!
Bibliophile first, Gamer second, but always a combination of Nerd/Geek/Dork.

5) If you participated in the last read-a-thon, what’s one thing you’ll do different today? If this is your first read-a-thon, what are you most looking forward to?
This time I'm only going to read eBooks which means I'll be wearing my reading glasses ALL DAY.

I am always happy to participate in this even and I even managed to wake up hyper! Good reading everyone!

September 2014 Bloggiesta To-Do-List

Bloggiesta-Button-2

I really had a good time participating in a recent Mini-Bloggiesta, a full weekend of brushing up my blog and doing things I hadn't been able to get around to doing. So I'm going to go ahead and participate in the full Bloggiesta, starting September 18.

As I am a part-time blogger my to-do list will probably not be as extensive as others, but it is still a list of things I have been needing to do for a while now.

To-Do:
  • Write up at least one recipe review.
  • Come up with a game-plan for the 24-hour Read-a-thon.
  • Come up with a game-plan for Sci-Fi Month.
  • Create a Review Policy.
  • Clean up my Goodreads account.
  • Update my Riffle account.
I may end up having a few more ideas during Bloggiesta, but for now I feel this will take up plenty of time. I'm really looking forward to learning more.

Mini-Bloggiesta: Goal 1 Achieved!

So, my first goal for the Mini-Bloggiesta was to make my logo look more like the original picture, at least in terms of coloration. I have achieved this. Yes, the logo looks more cartoonish, but at least it no longer looks like faded pink with solid black. I like the cartoon look. What's most important, to me, is that it is still my drawing, design, etc. I've already replaced my Twitter picture with this.

1 goal down, 3 or so more to go!

A Whole New Start

So I've decided to change up a few things about my blogging. I've decided I'm going to do one central blog instead of my previously separated Book Reviews and Baking Recipes. I will also be doing reviews of puzzles, games, restaurants, whatever catches my fancy. I hope you enjoy the new look/feel of my reviews.

And yes, I drew this myself :)
